Who are we?

The Green Committee is a sub-committee of the Environmental Commission committed to help the town of Hammonton reduce it's environmental footprint

Mission Statement:

The Green Committee of Hammonton is dedicated to the sustainability of the environment in our town. This sub-committee is committed to creating programs that will help our town reduce it's environmental footprint. We will do this by examining renewable energy sources, and ways to increase energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption, minimize waste generation, increase recycling, conserve water/fuel and garden responsibly. We intend to educate the public on sustainable business practices and individual responsibility. The Green Committee of Hammonton envisions a beautiful, eco-conscious place to live that future generations will thank us for.

Goals:

-Examine renewable energy sources

-Increase energy efficiency and recycling

-Minimize waste generation and water use

- Educate the public on environmental issues

-Create environmentally related projects and activities

-Seek out environmentally related grants and other funding

-Work closely with other members of the community

Accomplishments Thus Far:

-Assembled in 2008 by Mayor John DiDonato in response to a request to sign the Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement

-Created an annual Green Day Festival

-Educated 7th graders about water quality along with the Stockton Water Watch

-Applied for BPU Energy Audits

- A rain garden adjacent to the library.

-Worked with Mainstreet Hammonton to create a Farmer's Market

-Set up e-waste drop off sites
